The Inspectorate and review bodies have strengthened their work together through the appointment of a part time Inspection Wales Programme Manager (Alastair McQuaid) and a full time Inspection Wales Programme Coordinator (Bethan Cook).  There is a detailed Inspection Wales programme of activities and objectives for 2012-13, guided and underpinned by the formal strategic agreement between the inspectorates.

The Inspection Wales Secretariat (Alastair McQuaid and Bethan Cook) support the work of these groups, and provide a strategic overview. While both posts are hosted by Estyn, Alastair and Bethan work for each of the signatories to the strategic agreement and spend time in each of the member organisations – both formally and informally. The overarching objective is to deliver continuing improvement in collaborative working arrangements that promote improved outcomes for the citizens of Wales.

The Inspection Wales Programme for 2012-13 is focussed on the delivery of tangible outcomes from our collaborative work. To this end five working groups are in place:

  • Learning and Development: identifying scope for collaboration in L&D, including the delivery of joint training.
  • Inspection Wales Development Group: leading and coordinating developments in joint working and planning across Local Government and Health.
  • Information Sharing Group: looking to develop efficiencies in the way information is shared and used between the four inspectorates, minimising duplication and maximising the effectiveness of existing tools and approaches.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Group:  identifying common stakeholders and securing a more streamlined approached to engagement with them.
  • Communications Working Group: developing the Inspection Wales website and managing joint communications for the programme.
